Description

The U.S. Army Cold Regions Research and Engineering Laboratory (CRREL) (est. February 1, 1961) solves interdisciplinary, strategically important problems for the Corps of Engineers, Army, Department of Defense, and the Nation. CRREL discovers, develops, and delivers advanced and applied science and engineering to complex environments, materials, and processes in all seasons and climates. The U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center, CRREL is a national resource focused on solving specific, customer-driven problems and conducting innovative research in five program areas - Civil Works - Engineered Resilient Systems - Environmental Quality & Installations - Geospatial Research & Engineering - Military Engineering.

What will I be doing?

You will research alongside CRREL staff and primary researchers. Under the guidance of a mentor, you will gain hands-on experience in a real world laboratory environment, in addition to modern research technologies and techniques. This experience will also focus on personal career development in the areas of STEM, providing opportunities to collaborate and network with other students and researchers across all STEM disciplines.

What is the anticipated start date?

ERDC-CRREL is ready to make appointments immediately. Exact start dates will be determined at the time of selection and in coordination with the selected candidates. Applications are reviewed on an ongoing basis and fellowships will be filled as qualified candidates are identified.

What are the benefits?

You will receive a stipend to be determined by ERDC-CRREL. Stipends are typically based on the participant’s academic standing, discipline, experience, and research facility location.  Other benefits may include the following:

  • Health Insurance Supplement. Participants are eligible to purchase health insurance through ORISE.
  • Relocation Allowance
  • Training and Travel Allowance

This ORISE appointment is a spring/summer opportunity.  Appointments may be extended depending on funding availability, project assignment, program rules, and availability of the participant.

Nature of the Appointment

You will not enter into an employee/employer relationship with ORISE, ORAU, DOD, or any other office or agency.  Instead, you will be affiliated with ORISE for the administration of the appointment through the ORISE appointment letter and Terms of Appointment.

Qualifications

This research opportunity is open to STEM students and recent graduates who are interested on hands-on experience in a real world laboratory environment. The focus on personal career development in the areas of STEM, providing opportunities to collaborate and network with other students and researchers across all STEM disciplines.
