FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – Over $14,000 has so far been raised in a GoFundMe online fundraiser to help the founder of the non-profit Breaking the Chains Debra Rush, following the sudden death of her daughter.

Kendra was killed in the early hours of March 21 at around 4 a.m. in Los Angeles. According to YourCentralValley.com’s sister station KTLA, officers were called to the area of 70th Street and Figueroa Street around 4:20 a.m. When they arrived, they found a 20-year-old woman suffering from a gunshot wound. She later died in the hospital.

Since Kendra’s death, the online fundraiser has received over 160 donations in five days and has been shared across multiple social platforms.

Breaking The Chains is a non-profit dedicated to supporting victims of human trafficking and raising awareness of human trafficking to the general public.

The non-profit’s founder, Debra Rush, is herself a survivor of human trafficking and for years she has partnered with various anti-human trafficking agencies to help prevent human trafficking crimes and help victims heal from their trauma.

In a memorial posted to social media on Monday, Rush writes that the tragedy “serves as a stark reminder that no one is immune to the horrors of human trafficking.”
