Second Gentleman, U.S. Veterans Affairs secretary to visit Alabama during COVID-19 vaccine tour
The Second Gentleman of the United States Douglas Emhoff and U.S. Veterans Affairs Secretary Denis McDonough will be visiting Alabama on Thursday.As part of the National Month of Action initiative to get more Americans vaccinated by the July 4 holiday, Emhoff and McDonough will stop in Birmingham to "highlight the ease of getting vaccinated, and mobilize grassroots vaccine education and outreach efforts."The tour will begin Thursday morning in Birmingham with a kick-off event with volunteers and community organizers. Then the community members will distribute educational information encouraging people to get vaccinated throughout the area.Following that event, Emhoff and McDonough will also tour the vaccination clinic inside of Jackson-Olin High School before McDonough heads down to Montgomery, where he will be joined by Dr. Cameron Webb, Senior Policy Advisor for COVID-19 Equity.In Montgomery, McDonough and Webb will tour a vaccine clinic hosted by the American Legion. This is part of a VA effort to vaccinate veterans, their families and their caregivers.The tour began Monday with Vice President Kamala Harris' visit to Greenville, South Carolina.
