Arnold M. Lane, Jr. (he/him) serves as the Director for Multicultural Education and Community Engagement in the Office of Diversity, Inclusion, and Multicultural Education (ODIME). Within his role, Arnold leads and oversees all student diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB) experiences, programs, services, trainings, and initiatives for WPI. Arnold and the ODIME team oversee and manage four student identity centers: OASIS Multicultural Center, Collegiate Religious Center, Center for Black Excellence, and Lavender Lounge which promote the office's various programs, services, and support for BIPOC/ALANA students, LGBTQIAP+ students, women, first generation students, students who practice faith/religion, low income students, and other identities. Arnold develops and facilitates various educational strategies to support diverse student populations in STEM while also preparing undergraduate and graduate WPI scholars to enter a diverse workforce. Aligned with a creative vision as well as a passion for equity and inclusion, Arnold uses a student centered approach to his advocacy in support of underrepresented student populations at WPI.

Arnold was born and raised in Westchester County, New York and had dreams of becoming a high school administrator. As a first generation college graduate, former student athlete in Men’s Cross Country/Track and Field, and former student leader in Student Government and his University’s multicultural student groups Arnold found a new passion for advocacy and used his experiences as a springboard to pursue a career in higher education. 

Arnold served as the Assistant Director for Multicultural Affairs at WPI from October 2020 - August 2021. Prior to WPI Arnold served as the Assistant Director for Student Development at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts (Winston-Salem, NC) where he created diversity programs and professional development experiences for the University community. He began his career as a Community Director at Clemson University (Clemson, SC) where he oversaw the learning and development of residential students in two apartment communities.

Arnold received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from the University of New Haven (West Haven, CT). He received his Master of Education degree in Student Personnel Administration in Higher Education from Springfield College (Springfield, MA) where he served as the Graduate Assistant for Diversity Programs and Services at Western New England University (Springfield, MA). He also received a Master of Business Administration degree from Winston-Salem State University (Winston-Salem, NC).
