ALLENDALE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Monday night’s NCAA Division II Sweet 16 showdown between the Grand Valley State and Ferris State women’s basketball teams will be televised live on WXSP-TV.

The Lakers (31-2) are the top seed in the Midwest regional and three-time defending Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference champions. GVSU rolled past No. 8 Trevecca Nazarena (63-35) and No. 4 Northern Michigan (72-44) to make the Sweet 16.

The Bulldogs (24-5) are the third seed in the Midwest regional. Ferris beat Lewis in the first round and upset No. 2 Ashland 64-59 in the regional semifinals.

The Lakers and Bulldogs split their two regular-season games. Ferris State won 71-65 at home on Jan. 20, but the Lakers have been perfect ever since — winning 16 consecutive games, including a 63-38 win over Ferris last month in Allendale.

Tip-off is set for 7:05 p.m. at the GVSU Fieldhouse Arena. WXSP is available on channel 15 over the air and on several cable and satellite systems.

The winner will advance to the Elite Eight, played next week in St. Joseph, Missouri.
