“It costs a lot more money to drive our trucks here to do the work and to run all this heavy equipment that we're using to get the job done,” said Tim Boyle, of Giant Landscaping.

Boyle has at least 30 pieces of equipment that run on diesel.

The average cost of fuel hit a record in New Hampshire on Tuesday at $6.23 per gallon.

Regular gas is also setting a new record at $4.34 per gallon.

Boyle said he had to implement a 3% surcharge on services.

“Well, unfortunately, we have no choice but to pass along some of our increased expenses,” Boyle said. "As much as we'd prefer not to, we need to stay in business."

Massood Samii is a former senior economist for the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries.

“I don't see prices going back to what it was about two years ago,” Samii said.

Because of increased demand for oil, along with the war in Ukraine, he doesn't think there will be a drop-off in prices this summer.

“Nothing is forever, but there is a possibility. It depends upon how much we reduce our use of fossil fuel with alternative energy, with our change in our behavior,” Samii said.
