The price of diesel hit a record high this weekend in New Hampshire.
While most day-to-day transportation doesn't run on diesel, the vehicles that deliver goods do.
From $600 to $800, filling up at the pump for diesel fuel is emptying the pockets of truck drivers like Harold Alleyne-Beard.
“Yesterday was the first time I had to fill my truck all the way up and I hit over $1,000,” Alleyne-Beard said.
According to AAA, the average cost of diesel fuel hit an all-time high at $6.13 a gallon this weekend. On Monday, the average price for a gallon of diesel in New Hampshire was $6.23. That's compared to $5.01/gallon one month ago and $2.95/gallon one year ago.
One truck owner told News 9 he experienced his slowest month of the year, profiting just $1,000.
"The price of diesel in Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Pennsylvania is terrible, more than even in California,” he said.
In Bow, the price of a gallon of diesel is $6.45 which is $3.51 higher than just a year ago.
According to Gas Buddy, predicting the future of fuel prices is not going to be easy especially as the war in Ukraine wages on and the spread of COVID-19 continues to force cities that consume vast amounts of oil to institute restrictions.
"China is a very large oil consumer and if China shuts down along with these big cities, that could mean lower demand and it could mean lower prices. It just depends on how long these cities are shut down,” said Patrick Dehaan with Gas Buddy.
AAA reported Monday a gallon of regular gas in New Hampshire was averaging $4.30.
