Popular Boston beach facing earlier lockdown amid rash of incidents
New restrictions were put into place Wednesday at a busy Boston, Massachusetts beach, amid a rash of incidents prompting police responses. The Department of Conservation and Recreation said starting Wednesday, it would be closing the Carson Beach bathrooms every day at 6 p.m. "due to staff and public safety concerns."The move comes less than 48 hours after five teenagers were arrested in an incident in the courtyard at the McCormack Bath House near the snack bar next to the beach. Massachusetts State Police say about 70 young people were gathered there Monday evening, some harassing lifeguards, smoking marijuana and bumping into bystanders.Troopers say they warned the teens, between the ages of 14 and 17, to follow the rules, but that a few of them started yelling insults.The situation escalated, until at one point, a trooper took his stun gun out of its holster.Along the South Boston coast, lifeguards and Massachusetts State Police are also keeping a watchful eye on alcohol consumption, and trying to crack down on a new issue: alcohol deliveries.Boston city councilor Ed Flynn said there have been numerous complaints of people ordering liquor deliveries to addresses along M Street or Carson Beach, and then bringing the alcohol onto the beach.The Mass. DCR said it continues to work closely with the Massachusetts State Police on the rules and regulation enforcement of Carson Beach, M Street Beach, and Pleasure Bay in the city of Boston.
