Internships

Internship Program

Students who intern with Texas AHEC East - Waco region receive firsthand experiences with health education, community engagement, and social advocacy. Our interns are involved in planning for major events and programs, developing educational resources, and making connections with community partners. We would love to have you join the Texas AHEC East - Waco Region team as an intern!

Here are some of the projects our interns have worked on:

  • Organizing our annual Healthy Families Expo

  • Presenting to students about healthy eating habits

  • Creating curriculum for our health education summer camp

  • Planning our annual panel discussion on health equity

  • Hosting an after-school program for elementary school children to learn about healthy habits

  • Curriculum development

  • Social media management

  • Community based health education

We accept interns all year long - fall, spring, and summer. Our internships are unpaid, but students can receive academic credit for their experiences. We can supervise Masters of Public Health interns or Bachelors of Public Health interns for academic credit. We are also able to accommodate students of other areas of study, but we cannot guarantee focused supervision in those areas.

Interns must be either Bachelors or Masters students and have a passion for working with underserved communities. A good candidate for this program will be flexible, adaptable to changes, and a team player. If you are interested in applying for an internship with Texas AHEC East - Waco Region, you can email ashley.bearden@txaheceast.org with a copy of your resume or complete the internship application. All interns will be required to interview.
