Professor Mariana Mazzucato receives prestigious award from Italian President

In Spring 2021, Professor Mariana Mazzucato was awarded the honor of Grande Ufficiale of the Order of Merit from the Italian President. Today (22nd September) the award is being celebrated with a reception at the Italian Embassy in the UK, hosted by Ambassador Raffaele Trombetta. 

The Grande Ufficiale honor (the second highest in the 5 categories of Italian government honours) is presented every year to recognise contributions to the Italian Republic in the fields of literature, arts, economics, and public services carried out for social, philanthropic or humanitarian purposes or in distinguished civil and military careers.

This year Professor Mariana Mazzucato has been recognised for her outstanding contributions to economic theory and policy, both in Italy and globally. 

Professor Mazzucato said of the award:

“I am delighted to receive the Grande Ufficiale Ordine al Merito della Repubblica Italiana. I have dedicated my career to advancing a new economic narrative that will better serve the common good. It has been my immense privilege to apply these insights in the Italian context through my work with the Italian government, and to represent Italy on the G7 Panel for Economic Resilience. I hope to continue working with partners in Italy to contribute to building an economy that is sustainable, resilient and just.”
