Supporting our LGBTQ+ Campus Community

The Counseling and Testing Center, the Dean of Students’ Office and the EEO Office have partnered to develop a one-hour training available to our campus community to provide education, guidance and resources regarding our LGBTQ+ community. The overall objective is to provide information and knowledge about ways we can each contribute to creating a more inclusive environment for our entire campus community. Learning objectives include understanding issues and challenges in the LGBTQ+ community, becoming familiar with terminology in the transgender and LGBTQ+ community and learning to support members of the LGBTQ+ community.  Additional resources are provided for anyone wanting a deeper dive into the topics presented.  The training is available through Brightspace.  Please contact Tami Hannon at tlz2@uakron.edu should you have any difficulty accessing the course. Please contact Dr. Natacha Keramidas (nlk16@uakron.edu) if you’d like to learn more about the SafeZone Ally training or other available trainings for faculty and staff including Mental Health First Aid, How to recognize distress and refer students, and many others.  Many mental health related trainings can also be tailored to specific classes or student organizations.
