By the numbers: A look at spring 2023 graduates from the University of Alabama
The University of Alabama was scheduled to award more than 5,000 degrees during spring commencement exercises this weekend at Coleman Coliseum.
According to UA, the spring class of 2023 included 4,233 undergraduates, 1,351 master's degree or education specialist candidates and 119 doctoral degree candidates.

UA's spring graduating class included students from 30 countries, all 50 states and 65 or Alabama's 67 counties.
The class had a grade point average of 3.507 and included 1,139 students who identify as minority, 651 first-generation college students and 490 applicants with multiple majors.
A total of eight graduation ceremonies were spread out over Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the coliseum.
Serving as commencement marshals were:
- Joy Burnham, professor of counselor education and director of international programs
- Luvada Harrison, assistant professor of musical theater and voice
- Xiaochun "Martin" Liu, assistant professor of economic, finance and legal studies
- Jimmy Mixson, associate professor of history
- Debra Nelson-Gardell, associate professor of social work
- Mary Stone, Hugh Culverhouse endowed chair of accountancy
- Felecia G. Wood, professor of nursing
