(May 18, 2020) — The Washington State Labor Council, AFL-CIO held its 2020 Committee on Political Education (COPE) Endorsement Convention on Saturday, May 16. More than 300 delegates representing unions from across Washington state gathered online for this first-ever “virtual” convention to vote on which candidates have earned organized labor’s support for election this fall. Delegates considered endorsements for congressional, statewide, state legislative, and statewide judicial candidates. By WSLC Constitution, a two-thirds majority vote is needed for endorsement.

Beth Doglio, a state representative in the 22nd District that includes Olympia, Lacey and Tumwater, was endorsed for Congress in the 10th District race to fill the open seat being vacated by U.S. Rep. Denny Heck. Doglio is a strong advocate for Washington’s working families with a 100% lifetime WSLC voting record and has sponsored — and succeeded in passing — many pro-worker bills during her tenure in the Legislature.

All five of the WSLC’s 2020 “Path to Power” candidates for State Legislature received endorsements. The WSLC’s Path to Power candidate training program provides union members and local community activists with the tools and tips to run a successful political campaign in an effort to build power that will positively influence our communities.
