IIA Chicago Chapter: 80 years strong!
Established in 1941, The Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) is an international professional association with global headquarters in Lake Mary, Florida, USA. The IIA is the internal audit profession's global voice, recognized authority, acknowledged leader, chief advocate, and principal educator. Generally, members work in internal auditing, risk management, governance, internal control, information technology audit, education, and security.
We are pleased to be a 2023 Building Awareness Champion!
During Internal Audit Awareness Month in May, we shared our passion for internal auditing, promoting the profession through a variety of events and campaigns designed to inform and engage, raise awareness, and help stakeholders understand the value of internal audit in their organizations.
We had yet another successful year for the Chicago Chapter, and now it’s time to keep the momentum going with the hybrid mix of returning Board members and new Officers, Board members, and committee leaders. Specifically in FY 23 we accomplished the following:
While this list is not exhaustive it exemplifies the strong leadership, volunteers, and dedication of the Chicago chapter during a transition period. In the coming year, the new Officers and Board members are dedicated to make it an even more successful year, with very large shoes to fill, to provide the Chicago chapter with new opportunities and events.

William C. Anderson - Member of the Year The IIA Chicago Chapter's most prestigious award, recognizing the individual who has made the most outstanding volunteer contribution to the Chapter during the current year. Candidates who have consistently demonstrated exceptional work for our Chapter will be considered.
Special Recognition Given to the member(s) who have either made a significant volunteer contribution during the current year, or who have provided significant and consistent service to the IIA and Chicago Chapter over a number of years.
Auditor of the Year A unique award, not related to volunteering with IIA Chicago Chapter, but rather focusing on the day-to-day performance as an internal audit professional. This award celebrates the value that the individual and our profession has recently brought to their organization. It is awarded to an internal auditor who directly and significantly contributed to their organization via examples such as fraud discoveries, control improvements, new risk assessment methodologies, revenue leakage findings, expense savings, continuous monitoring processes, or compliance and regulation controls.
New Member of the Year Awarded for the outstanding contributions made by a new member of the IIA, new IIA Chicago Chapter BOG member, Officer, or other Chapter volunteer during the current year.
There are a large number of volunteers working in our chapter within a structured format that includes Chairpersons overseeing committees and numerous members. These are invaluable individuals within our chapter and this award recognizes the highest performing Chairperson during the current year.
Awarded to a Chicagoland educator who has made a significant contribution to the internal audit profession either in the classroom or during research.
Innovator of the Year Recognizes the member who has demonstrated value to their organizations and the internal audit profession through creative and innovative application of technology, processes, products, activities, and programs.
Similar to the goals and objectives set by the organizations we work for and that we set for ourselves, The Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) and its Chapters set goals and objectives that guide their efforts to achieve desired results. Chapters communicate the status of their efforts to The IIA through the CAP. The CAP recognizes the activities Chapters perform to promote The IIA's strategies and objectives and Chapters' local objectives. It also sets minimum standards of performance for Chapters, and is a means for the IIA and Chapters to evaluate the achievement of established objectives. The CAP measures the ability of Chapter Leadership to meet its responsibilities in three categories: chapter health, professionalism and, most importantly, service to members. Points are earned for the activities Chapter Leadership and Chapter Members complete in these categories.
Chapters that attain the required point totals in each category and overall, are recognized as Bronze, Silver, or Gold Chapters.
Chapters that reach the Gold level in 10 of the last 11 years are recognized as Platinum Chapters.
Chapters that reach the Platinum level for 10 years are recognized as Ruby Chapters, for 15 years as Sapphire Chapters, and for 25 years as Diamond Chapters.
The Chicago Chapter is currently recognized as a Sapphire Chapter.
