Health Insurance and Pensions

Insurance

City employees enjoy a full range of health benefits and other protections.

  • All full-time employees are eligible for affordable comprehensive medical, dental, and prescription drug coverage. Spouses and domestic partners are eligible as well, as are dependent children under the age of 26.
  • Additional coverage for cancer care, intensive care, short-term disabilities, and accidents is available through outside companies.
  • Employees can easily enroll in affordable legal insurance and discounted vision coverage plans.
  • The City pays the entire cost of life insurance up to $250,000, and employees can enroll in more extensive coverage.

Pensions

Once you join our team, you'll be enrolled in the Employee Retirement System, a pension plan that will help you enjoy your retirement comfortably. If you have any questions after looking at the ERS website, you can get them answered by calling (314) 622-3560.

 

Health and Fitness

The City of St. Louis and Barnes Jewish Hospital partnered up to create a health and fitness program that's free for all employees. The BeeFit program encourages employees to exercise, eat healthy, and stay fit by offering all kinds of classes and programs that help you feel well and stay healthy:

  • 10-week Weight Loss Challenge
  • Yoga
  • Low Impact Aerobics
  • Smoking Cessation classes
  • Diabetes at Work
  • Blood pressure screenings
  • The BJC Mammogram Van
  • Wellness screenings, designed to identify certain potential risk factors

  • Mile-by-Mile Marathon

Living in the City of St. Louis

Many cultural attractions, such as the world-class St. Louis Zoo and St. Louis Art Museum, are free to all visitors.
