Archie W. Scott

The Scott family is heartbroken to announce that their patriarch Archie William Scott, Jr. passed away to meet their heavenly father on Friday December 9, 2022 at the age of 98.

Born in San Antonio, Texas June 30, 1924, Archie grew up in the historic town of Schulenburg, Texas. He married his high school sweetheart, Edith, whom he remained married to for 76 years.

Archie went to Schulenburg High School and played football as a Shorthorn. He then received a football scholarship to attend Texas Lutheran College in Seguin. Post WWII, he studied to be an electrical engineer at the University of Texas.

After the invasion of Pearl Harbor, dad joined the Marines in 1942 completing boot camp in San Diego. He was then sent to Communications School at Camp Pendleton in December 1942. While overseas, he made three major landings- Camp Gloucester, Peleliu, and Okinawa. The Peleliu Battle was one of WW II's bloodiest. There were 16,000 men landing on the island and at its conclusion, 6,500 were either wounded or dead. His company was made up of 297 Marines and in less than one month, he was one of only 20 men remaining. Dad was released from active duty in February 1946. Then in 1950, his reserve unit was called to combat in Korea returning home in December 1952.

Besides his wife, the other love of his life was being a Freemason serving the small-town communities around Central Texas. He was a Master Mason (33rd) and a member of over 30 lodges. Archie also served for over 10 years as the Grand Treasurer at the Masonic Grand Lodge of Texas in Waco. Other bodies of the lodge he was involved with were the Ben Hur Shriners, York Rite, Scottish Rite, and The National Sojourners. As a founding member of Saint Marks Methodist Church in north Austin, Archie had several roles throughout the years and especially enjoyed cooking BBQ for the fundraising events.

Surviving Archie is his wife, Edith; 4 children, Karen, Trey, Eric, and Clifford; 7 grandchildren, Nathan, Vanessa, Derek, Skyler, Audra, Steevi, and Cole; 6 great grandchildren, Sequoia, Aleah, Addison, Viola, Leah, and Henry.

The church services will be held on Monday December 19th at 10AM, St. Marks Methodist Church, 601 West Braker Lane in Austin.

Graveside services will be held that day at 3PM, Schulenburg City Cemetery, 1307 Eilers Street Schulenburg, Texas.
