Specialized trauma verification programs, such as Advance Trauma Life Support (ATLS), Advance Trauma Care for Nurses (ATCN), and the Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNCC), as well as the licensure prep course, Trauma Nurse Specialist, are offered at SSM Health Saint Louis University Hospital.

Trauma Injury Prevention
SSM Health Saint Louis University Hospital is dedicated to preventing injuries. Injury is a serious public health problem due to the impact on our citizens. This impact includes premature deaths, disability and financial burdens. Motor vehicle crashes and falls occur so regularly that people believe these injuries are just a part of life.& Injuries are not accidents. Injuries are predictable, and their consequences can be reduced with proper prevention.
Injuries are a leading cause of death for Americans ages 1 to 44 years, but many people are injured each year and survive. Pain, disability, large medical bills and a change in lifestyle are a few of the consequences to the injured patient.
Motor vehicle crashes are often predictable and preventable. Increased use of safety belts and reductions in driving while impaired are two of the most effective ways to reduce the risk of death and serious injury. However, currently distracted driving such as texting or talking on the phone have increased motor vehicle crash related fatalities and injuries.
A few other factors that contribute to injuries each year include deer stand falls, lack of gun safety measures, cyber bullying and workplace violence.
What can you do to help?
- Visit distraction.gov to take the pledge against distracted driving and learn how to be a "good passenger."
- Visit stopthebleed.org to learn about the nation-wide STOP the Bleed Campaign, which educates the public on how to stop life-threatening bleeding.
