The Senior Transportation Engineer is responsible for overseeing and completing roadway reviews and designs including geometry, drainage, E&S, and plan presentation to support transportation-focused projects.

The Senior Transportation Engineer will work collaboratively with Roadway Designers, Engineers, and CADD Technicians and will be given the responsibility to oversee roadway tasks for both PennDOT and Pennsylvania Turnpike projects. They are also responsible for managing task deliverables; assisting upper-level management with projects and initiatives; overseeing and developing the Transportation Design team; attending events and association meetings; and applying technical knowledge and experience to perform a wide array of complex design assignments.

Typical Duties:
• Coordinates with technicians and administrative staff as needed.
• Develops and applies standards and guidelines.
• Conducts final review of plan sets before submission for all specialty areas provides comments to less experienced staff members and submits to Group Manager upon all comments being addressed for final approval. Has full responsibility for interpreting, organizing, executing, and coordinating assignments in one or more areas of practice.
• Conducts final review of quantity calculations, provides final comments back to the team for corrections if required, and submits to Group Manager upon all comments addressed for final approval.
• Addresses lower-level staff questions, acts of subject matter expert (SME) on internal policies and practices, and potentially specialized areas of expertise.
• Acts as technical liaison to individuals within and outside the company, with the responsibility to make decisions independently concerning technical matters.
• Delegates project tasks to Transportation Engineer 2 and team-based upon specialty areas.
• Attends complex project task meetings with the potential to facilitate as required. Review and finalize meeting minutes and address any to all questions as requested.
• May collaborate between internal project delivery departments to complete assigned project tasks as needed.
• Submit the final task deliverable to the Group Manager for final review and submission to the prime consultant.
• May assist in the preparation of technical and price proposals and participation in negotiating scope and price.
• Coordinates discussion points with prime consultants concerning design requirements, attributes, mitigation efforts, and solutions.
• Routinely interacts with clients, contractors, and officials and represents the company in technical matters.

Typical Skills, Transferable Experience, & Certifications:
• Education: Bachelor’s
• Professional License: PE
• Minimum Experience: 10 Years

Preferred Skills/Experience:
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Thorough understanding of the PennDOT design and submission process.
• Proficiency with Bentley CADD products including MicroStation, InRoads, and Open Roads Design.
• Capable of working independently to solve problems and address comments.
• Capable of coordinating multiple projects to meet deadlines.
• Demonstrates a high degree of creativity, planning, organization, and problem-solving skills.

Job Description

Do you have transferrable experience for the Geotechnical Technician position, a positive attitude, and are looking to join a highly collaborative and people-focused company?

The Geotechnical Technician is responsible for the supervision of subcontractors and logging boreholes.

This role will work collaboratively with other Technicians, Geologists, Engineers, and Designers and will be given the responsibility to act as the on-site contact for geotechnical work.

Typical Duties:

• Supervise subcontractors and log boreholes.
• Communicate with subcontractors regarding the project status.
• Relay problems in the field to experienced staff to solve on-the-job problems as they arise.
• Support the office Geotechnical Team with preparing Geotechnical Reports using applicable PennDOT & PA Turnpike Design Standards

Must-Haves – Skills, Transferrable Experience, & Certifications:

• Education: High School Diploma/GED, BA/BS a plus
• Minimum experience: 0+ years

Preferred Skills/Experience:

• Ability to obtain PennDOT Drilling Inspector Certification.
• Ability to obtain OSHA HAZWOPER 40-hour training.
• Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing with internal/external clients.
• Detail-oriented and strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
• Basic math and reading skills.
• Ability to demonstrate effective supervisory qualities and skills.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office and PDF editing software.
• Ability to become proficient with boring log software (Bentley gINT).
• EIT or GIT a plus.
• MicroStation or drafting software is a plus.

Additional Information:

The offered rate of compensation for this full-time position will be based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. This role requires the ability to travel with little to no notice, including overnight stays regularly, to various project work sites in different locations, and have the ability to stand for extended periods in addition to being outside in various extreme terrain or conditions and varying environmental or hazardous settings. This position also requires the ability to exert moderate amounts of force including lifting, carrying, pulling, and moving objects for various methods of testing.
