Central Dauphin High School
March Newsletter
Principal Message
As we begin to move closer and closer to spring and the start of the fourth marking period, it brings a sense of excitement and joy that the end of the year is coming soon. However, it is important to note there is still a lot of time for growth and improvement to our 22-23 school year. One of our core values at CDHS is Strength. Strength is defined as the way to push through and doing your best even when times are challenging and tough. As we enter March, we will continue to discuss our core value of strength in our Connections classes and explore how to handle stress.
In February, the students made their course selections within our learning management system over two connections periods. The school counselors are now reviewing the selections and transcripts while the administration is planning the master schedule for the 2023-2024 school year. Also, it is important to note that our students continue to put in quality work within the classroom. Walking through classes and the hallways, I noticed that students are collaborating and working closely with the staff to prepare for the fourth marking period and Keystone Exams.
Everyday, I continued to be impressed with our overall school environment where we provide students with a high-quality education built on high expectations and high level of support. We realize that we are not at perfection but I can tell you that I am proud of the students and staff for putting in the work to make CDHS an environment where students and staff are working together to achieve a learning environment where everyone reaches their maximum potential. We continue to be excited about this year and where we are headed.

CDHS HAS BEEN APPROVED TO RAISE MONEY FOR A THERAPY DOG
CDHS Student goes to Washington!
Central Dauphin Junior, Lael Laing, was selected through an application process by a team from Y-USA as one of two students to represent Pennsylvania as a Youth Advocate at YMCA National Advocacy Days. An event that brings together YMCA staff people, CEOs, and Board Members from around the country to advocate on behalf of the YMCA's legislative priorities to members of Congress, National Advocacy Days' Youth Advocates program provides a platform for students to address their elected officials alongside YMCA leadership.
Lael was part of our PA delegation that met with 16 members of Congress as she personally advocated on behalf of her chosen priority, the YMCA's push for expanded access to quality childcare. A vital part of our team, Lael and her other Youth Advocate from PA took the lead during meetings with Congressmen and their staffers, serving as our best ambassadors of the YMCA's core values of honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring. She had the opportunity to sit beside newly-elected Senator John Fetterman and speak directly with the Senator concerning her priorities of interest, as well as the Youth and Government program.
Lael was one of seven elected statewide Presiding Officers for the 2022-2023 year. Attached are photos of Lael with Senator Fetterman, the PA delegation, and with Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick.
42nd Street: The Musical
Come along and listen to the lullaby of Broadway! 42nd Street celebrates Broadway, Times Square and the magic of showbiz with wit, humor, and pizzazz. At the height of the Great Depression, aspiring chorus girl Peggy Sawyer comes to the big city from Allentown PA, and soon lands her first big job in the ensemble of a glitzy new Broadway show. But just before opening night, the leading lady breaks her ankle. Will Peggy be able to step in and become a star? The score is chock-full of Broadway standards, including: "You're Getting To Be A Habit With Me," "Dames," "We're In the Money," "Lullaby of Broadway," "Shuffle Off to Buffalo" and "Forty-Second Street."

What is the Inclement Remote Day Schedule?
Winter months bring a lot of questionable weather. There are times when the Central Dauphin School District moves to an Inclement Weather Remote Day Schedule. When this occurs, CDSD will send out a correspondence to all families of CDSD, students that will indicate whether or not school will be in session or if we will have a Flexible Instruction Day (FID). Not all closures will be a flexible instruction day. If we move to FID schedule, families will receive an email from the school principal.
What is required of my child during a remote day ?
It is required that all students attend all zoom or team sessions. All students can find their classroom teacher’s zoom or team’s link on their teacher’s canvas page under the weekly agenda or inclement weather tab. Attendance will be taken during each academic period. Any student who does not attend a zoom or team class will be marked absent from that particular class. If your student has a first period study hall, they will complete a link to sign in for attendance.
What does my child do if they are experiencing connectivity issues?
If your student has any issues with internet connection or other access issues, they must submit a note or email from a parent/guardian to the grade level principal.
