Panther Post Week 16
Principal's Message
Hello Panther Family,
Happy Friday! It was another amazing week here at Asa G Hilliard Elementary! This week, our scholars returned from break and they did an amazing job! Many of our Beta Club Members attended the National Convention in Savannah. They won awards for their service project display and trading pin creation. Our school also raised 720 cans for the 11-Alive Can a Thon. Our Panther Ambassadors delivered the cans on our behalf to the Salvation Army. Finally, we had an amazing school wide dance and our Student of the Month Breakfast! It was a busy week.
Below you will find some helpful information as you begin to plan for the week of our return.
- December 6th- Remote Learning Day- Due to the run off elections, FCS has made the call to transition Tuesday, December 6th to a remote learning day. Your scholar's teachers will provide clear directions on how to access instruction for that day and may provide at home learning materials
- Drop Off- It is so wonderful how many families are ensuring their scholars are at school on time. We notice and appreciate your dedication. As a reminder, students may not be let out of cars prior to 7:10am. When scholars are left unattended at the door this is a safety concern. Our staff will open the doors promptly at 7:10am to begin our day. Thanks you for prioritizing our student safety first.
- December 8th- We will have our Winter Performance. You don't want to miss it. All students have been working extremely hard on their portion of the performance. The show will begin promptly at 6:30pm in the Cafeteria. Students received information regarding attire and arrival times this week. We will open the doors at 5:30pm. We have many vendors and a food truck. Come have dinner and see an amazing performance.
December to Remember- This week we began our December to Remember theme days. Throughout the remainder of the month, our Panthers have the opportunity to spread some much needed holiday cheer! We will continue to dress up representing a variety of holiday themes. To participate daily, please reference the calendar below.
Of course and as always, please don't hesitate to reach out to me with any questions or concerns atlillym@fultonschools.org..

SUPPORTING YOUR SCHOLARS AT HOME
Computer Science Education Week is December 5-10, 2022. It is an annual call to action to encourage students in K-12 schools to engage in activities that promote awareness of computer science fundamentals.
In preparation for Computer Science Week, Instructional Technology has also developed some activities that families can engage in during the Thanksgiving Holiday Break. Parents can engage learners during the Fall break with Adobe digital learning challenges to sharpen digital literacy, creativity, and critical thinking skills. Please share these FCS Fall Break Family Activities with the parents at your school.
- Challenge 1: Fall Traditions Interview
- Challenge 2: Favorite Fall Meal Graphic
- Challenge 3: Create an Adobe Express Page to share your Family Fall projects.
AT HOME LITERACY STRATEGY
Holiday Reading Fun
Parents, here are some fun and festive ways to engage in Reading during the holiday season!
Incorporate Holiday Themed Books into the Mix.
- Make a list of holiday classics you loved as a child and look into new releases to add in to reading time. Make a goal to work your way through one book a day over the break.
Make It a Family Affair.
- Create a nightly ritual where everyone in the family cozies up with a hot chocolate and a good book for 20-30 minutes
Create a Recipe for Success.
- Encourage your kids to help you cook this holiday season. Whether it be helping with dinners or baking treats, asking your kids to participate will make for a memorable and teachable moment. Add in reading by asking them to read the recipes out loud to you.
Make a Day of It.
- Make a plan to visit your local library or book store one day over the holiday break. If weather permits, bundle up and walk or sled there, and maybe even stop for a hot drink or tasty treat on the way home.
We hope that you’ll enjoy time off with your family over the holidays and keep reading fun and festive!
COMMITTING TO SAFETY AND SECURITY AT AGHES
Here at AGHES, we focus on safety and security everyday. We practice drills, use sign in procedures, and check visitors coming into our building. However, safety and security is a joint effort with the school and our community. Each month I will share information related to our safety and security procedures.
This month our focus is helping our scholars create and own a safe school environment. Below are some ways, you can support your child at home to create a safe environment at school.
- Discuss the school's discipline policy with your child. Show your support for the rules and help your child understand the reasons for them..
- Talk with your child about the violence he or she sees on television, in video games and possibly in the neighborhood. Help your child understand the consequences of violence and that this is not how to handle problems.
- Teach your child how to solve problems with their words. If there is an issue determine who your child identifies as a safe adult in the school building. Praise your child when he or she follows through.
- Help your child find ways to show anger that do not involve verbally or physically hurting others. When you get angry, use it as an opportunity to model these appropriate responses for your child and talk about it.
Reminding your child that although things can happen that are upsetting, in school there are people to help! Ask them who their trusted adult is and leverage that person if issues arise. We hope one by one this will support us in maintaining a safe school environment.
