Awards & Grants

Graduate Student Paper Award

Graduate Student Paper Award
The Society for Ethics Across the Curriculum’s Graduate Student Paper Award recognizes exceptional papers written by current graduate students and presented at the Society’s Annual Conference. One Graduate Student Paper Award is announced at every SEAC Annual Conference, unless no papers of sufficient quality to merit the award are submitted. The deadline for papers is Friday, August 23, 2024.

Winners must attend the conference and present their paper in order to receive the award. The award consists of a $500 cash prize along with free conference registration and free membership for one year.

Eligibility and General Information
Any graduate student whose paper has been accepted by the Program Committee for presentation at the Society for Ethics Across the Curriculum’s Annual Conference and who communicated their interest in having the paper considered for the award in their email submission is eligible. Only full, single-authored papers can be submitted for the award. Papers must be no longer than 3,000 words. The student’s name should not appear anywhere throughout the paper.

Papers are evaluated by members of the SEAC Executive Committee according to their originality and quality of argument.

Again, the deadline for papers is Friday, August 23, 2024.

Opportunity Grant

SEAC seeks to support participation by traditionally underrepresented scholars in the life of the society. The grant provides a $500 stipend plus conference registration and banquet.

Eligibility:

  1. A faculty member or graduate student who identifies as traditionally underrepresented in the field of ethics
  2. And faculty member or graduate student whose proposal for the upcoming conference has been accepted.

Process for applying for grant
Once a faculty member or graduate student receives notice that their proposal has been accepted for the upcoming SEAC conference, they will notify the conference organizer that they would like to apply for the Opportunity Grant. In that email they should indicate what their anticipated expenses will be to attend the conference, including the registration and banquet fees, and what funds are available from their institution.

Selection Process:
A committee composed of the upcoming conference co-organizers and the Secretary-Treasurer of SEAC will determine, based on financial need, who receives the grant.
