Savannah State University is proud to partner with Savannah Chatham-County Public School System and other local community partners to offer summer camps for middle and high school students, providing exciting learning opportunities and academic enrichment. SSU Journalism and Mass Communications Media Experience Tour
May 23 - June 3 

Participants will tour the Journalism and Mass Communications facility and role-play a production in the TV studio, as a public relations (PR) strategist or journalist. Participants will have different experiential opportunities based on interest and tour choice. Students will be exposed to the world of communications, media, and career opportunities for those who may choose to pursue a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mass Communications, offered by Savannah State University. GenCyber
 Tiger Guardians Summer Camp
 
June 6 – 10 

The GenCyber summer camp at Savannah State University (SSU) aims to introduce cybersecurity principles to middle school students from the Savannah-Chatham County Public Schools System, Bryan County Schools System and surrounding areas. The summer camp is a five-day program that will allow students to learn different cybersecurity/computer science concepts through multiple comprehensive hands-on activities and simulations.

The GenCyber curriculum at SSU is designed to provide students with awareness, interest, and knowledge in the growing field of cybersecurity and computer science. Students are not required to have any prior knowledge or experience in cybersecurity, computer science or computers. During the camp sessions, students will learn robotics, programming, cryptography, cyber ethics, social engineering, footprinting and many other interesting topics in today's technology. Students attending the GenCyber summer camp will have the opportunity to program a NAO robot, drones, and micro:bit microcontroller by using visual programming and Java/Python. Participants will acquire awareness in GenCyber cybersecurity principals by completing a variety of hands-on activities.

The keynote speakers for the summer camp are experts in the field of cybersecurity, social engineering, and other related cybersecurity professions. Overall, students attending the summer camp will gain knowledge in important concepts of cybersecurity and computer science from a highly qualified team of instructors and student assistants.

Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Un
dergraduate Programs (GEAR UP) 
Summer Bridge
Session I: June 6 - 24 
Session II: July 11 - 15 

Students should expect to learn more about math, English/language arts, and STEM topics. ACT AND SAT college entrance exam test prep sessions will also be included. The program is exclusively for rising 10th and 11th grade students who are currently enrolled at Beach High School and the School of Liberal Studies at Savannah High.

TRiO Educational Talent Search Summer Camps
Educational Talent Search (ETS) will host a series of nine summer programming opportunities for middle and high school students during the months of June and July, from a Mini Medical Camp where students will be exposed to careers in healthcare, Becoming an Effective Leader Camp to "Say it with Music" Recording and Music Video Camp. Only students who are currently enrolled in the ETS program are eligible to participate, however, new students are encouraged to enroll.

Full STEAM Ahead with COE Summer Academy
June 20 - July 1

The College of Education in collaboration with the Robert Noyce Teaching Scholarship Program at Savannah State University invites high school seniors to the STEM Education Teaching and Learning Lab to explore various aspects of education, science, technology, engineering, and math while tapping into their artistic capabilities during COE Summer Academy.

The goal of this two week-long summer academy is to increase high school students interest in, and motivation to pursue, STEM and Education careers. The sessions will provide engaging and exciting exposure to current technologies surrounding today’s society, while increasing STEM Awareness through hands-on activities and combining those activities with the arts and makerspace opportunities. Students will be paired with a Noyce Intern. Participants will be introduced to a variety of STEM/STEAM fundamentals including but not limited to robotics design/construction and programming, as well as engineering design/construction for Bottle Rockets and AC Rockets, Bridge Building, etc. The week wraps up with campers testing/presenting their creations, and teaching a STEM Lesson.
