No More Hide-and-Seek Vegetation Management

Satelytics is a complete UVM solution.

Précis
  • Problem: Identifying threats to infrastructure.
  • Solution: Use data to prioritize efforts where they're needed.
  • Benefit: Effective, efficient UVM.

Satelytics’ customers are looking to the skies for data to improve their utility vegetation management (UVM) programs. Our machine learning algorithms analyze high-resolution satellite imagery, capturing invaluable information on expansive areas of interest in minutes. Results are available a few hours after satellite overpass — offering a scale unmatched by other remote sensing platforms such as UAS or aircraft.

Satelytics begins with the width of our customers’ corridor centerline coordinates and overall corridor dimensions to establish alert thresholds. First and foremost, we alert our customers to wire zone encroachments, determined by tree height, tree health, and proximity. We’re able to identify not only a single tree, but individual branches, too.

Measuring tree height and health also allows us to pinpoint potential strike threats adjacent to your transmission and distribution corridors. For example, if a 100-foot-tall tree stood 50 feet from the wire zone and fell toward it, the tree would hit the wire and transmission tower. If this tree declines in health to the point where it could fall, Satelytics issues a strike potential alert.

Satelytics also analyzes other contributing factors of strike threats such as tree speciation. Certain species of trees are prone to disease or fall prey to nature in other ways — such as impacts of the emerald ash borer beetle. Grasses, brush, and shrubbery can also be identified and monitored, giving you the complete picture in the field.

Completing the package, Satelytics then alerts you to signs the the work has been completed with work verification.

Utility vegetation management presents unique challenges. Incomplete UVM is costly. Our partners at ACRT Services have helped us develop analytics to direct corridor managers to problem spots. Satelytics returns actionable results in a timely manner, providing our customers with data to optimize and protect their operations, wherever and whenever.
