Winter is here. What was barren and brown is now snowy and white on the northern plains where I live. While on a call with a prospective customer in Canada, I was asked about Satelytics’ capabilities and experience operating in snow-covered environments. ‘Tis the season to brush up on Satelytics’ capabilities!

Understanding how solar radiation reflects off specific surfaces — “albedo” in remote sensing terms — plays an important role in creating accurate algorithms. This includes accounting for snow cover, where Satelytics’ scientists bundled up to gather the necessary samples to perfect capabilities for constituents of interest.

Our AI-powered machine learning algorithms compare data against applicable models and what they’ve learned from past projects. Winter monitoring projects benefit from previous work done over similar environments, such as those experienced in our Bakken and Alaska North Slope work. The same concept applies to other environments — deserts, forests, jungles, water, and more.
