Homes For Our Troops to host Key Ceremony for two injured veterans

The nonprofit Homes For Our Troops is planning to award the keys to two Ramona homes to two injured veterans at a joint Key Ceremony on Saturday, Jan. 21.

The specially adapted custom homes will be presented to Army Sgt. Joshua Hooker and Marine Sgt. Kaleb Weakley.

The event starts at 10 a.m., with check-in at 9:30 a.m., at the site of the Ramona homes at 1203 Kathriner Place and 1204 Kathriner Place in Ramona.

Homes For Our Troops builds and donates specially adapted homes nationwide for severely injured post-9/11 veterans to enable them to rebuild their lives. These homes restore some of the freedom and independence that veterans have sacrificed while defending our country.

After the Jan. 21 ceremony refreshments will be available and guests will have an opportunity to tour these two homes.

Childbirth preparation classes offered at Ramona Pregnancy Care Clinic

The Ramona Pregnancy Care Clinic is offering a free four-session childbirth preparation series.

The next class series will start on Sunday, Jan. 8 and continue each Sunday for four weeks. The classes are scheduled from 2 to 4:30 p.m. each Sunday at 1530 Main St., Suite 6.

The classes prepare a mother and her coach for the birth of her baby. Whether she chooses the birth to be in a hospital, birth center or at home, there is something for her to learn in this series of classes.

Some of the topics covered will be choices available (informed consent), nutrition during pregnancy, medical intervention, as well as different drugs and medications offered in the hospital environment. Also covered are methods of natural pain relief, how to make a birth plan and what to do in case of an emergency.

Finally, the classes will also cover breastfeeding and information about the amazing newborn.

Attendance at all four classes is encouraged.
