Charge the SolarCell remote for your Samsung Smart TV or Freestyle
Unlike other remotes, your new Samsung Smart TV, Odyssey Ark smart monitor, or The Freestyle projector’s remote doesn’t require you to keep a supply of extra batteries on hand. Instead, the TV's smart remote has a solar panel on its back that you can use for charging, whether you’re indoors or outdoors. The Freestyle remote and the TV's smart remote can even be charged with the same USB-C cable your phone uses.
Charge the remote
If you see the LED showing on the remote for at least 5 seconds, it means that it's time for a charge. There are two ways to do it: using the solar panel or with a USB-C cable, which can be found on our website. You can see how much power the remote has by pressing Home and then navigating to Settings. Select All Settings, then Power and Energy Saving, and finally Available Remote Battery.
Through the solar panel
When you think of “solar” energy, you probably think of sunlight. While your remote can be charged outside in the sun, it can also be charged with your indoor lights! That’s right, the remote’s solar panel is effective enough to run on electric lights, such as standard, LED, or CFL lightbulbs.
To charge the remote with solar energy, simply set the remote down with the solar panel facing up. You can do this in your living room while your lights are turned on, or you can place it near a window where it will soak in natural sunlight.
Note: Remotes with a solar panel will have a large silver panel on the back. If your remote does not have this, but has the USB-C port, it can be charged with a USB-C cable only.
With a USB-C cable
If the remote’s battery ever completely depletes and you need it charged right away, you can use a USB-C charging cable. The best part is, you can use the same cable you use to charge your phone! Plug one end of the cable into the remote’s charging port, and then plug the other end into a port on the TV or into a Samsung wall charger adapter.

Understanding the Remote's LED
The LED (light-emitting diode) can be found at the top of the Samsung SolarCell remote, right above the circular direction pad. It explains the status of your remote. It will let you know when the remote is disconnected, when it needs a charge, and when charging is in progress.
No LED showing
Sometimes the best LED, is no LED at all. No LED means that the remote and the TV are properly connected through Bluetooth.
The LED blinks twice
If the LED blinks twice when you press a button on the remote, this means that the Bluetooth connection between the TV and the remote has been lost. Because the remote also operates through an IR transmitter, you will still be able to change the channel and the volume. The LED remains on for 5 seconds or more
If the LED stays on for at least 5 seconds after you press a button on the remote, this means that the remote's battery needs to be charged. A charging guide will appear on the TV screen once the remote's battery level is at 50%, then again at 10% or less.
Note: The remote control's LED will stay on for 5 seconds every time a button is pressed when the remote's battery is at 10% or less.
The LED stays on constantly
If the LED is staying on, this means that the remote is charging successfully. The LED will turn off once charging is complete.
Smart remote features and basic functions
In addition to being eco-friendly, your Smart TV remote comes with all kinds of high-tech features! It can use voice assistants, including Bixby and Alexa. There are also specially designated buttons for easy access to features like Netflix, Prime Video, and more.
Obviously, the smart remote can perform traditional remote functions as well! To adjust the volume of the TV, slide the Volume button upwards or downwards. If you want to completely mute the sound, press the Volume button like you would with any other button. To unmute, press the button again.
Slide the Channel button upwards or downwards to change the current channel. If you want to open the channel guide, press the Channel button like you would with any other button.
