Samaritan Health Services offers several scholarship opportunities to those living in Linn County and seeking higher education in the medical field.
The Frank Girod, MD, Medical Scholarship was established by the Lebanon Community Hospital Development Council and was funded by numerous contributions made by the late Girod’s friends and family.
The Girod Medical Scholarship is awarded to medical students in honor of the lifetime contribution to health care made by Girod of Samaritan Lebanon Community Hospital and to assist new students of medicine to make similar contributions. The scholarship is coordinated by the Lebanon Community Hospital Foundation and is designed to help residents of east Linn County who are attending medical school.

The Jeanne Hazleton Scholarship for Midwifery and Doula Education was established in 2008 by Patrick Hazleton, husband of the late Jeanne Hazleton, and funded by numerous contributions made by family and friends. The purpose of the Jeanne Hazleton Scholarship Fund is to honor Jeanne’s lifetime service and contribution to the community as a practicing doula and midwife and to encourage women to enter or continue their education in the birthing profession. The scholarship program is designed to help residents of Benton, Lincoln and Linn counties begin or continue their education for doula and/or midwife training, certification or licensing.
To be considered for a Jeanne Hazleton Scholarship for midwifery and doula education, candidates must meet the following guidelines:

Scholarship recipient(s) will be announced July of 2024.Scholarship funds will be mailed in July in the recipient’s name directly to the college/university indicated on the application. No funds will be released directly to the recipient.

High school seniors and graduates from east Linn County who are enrolled in an entry level health care program at Linn-Benton Community College for the first time, are invited to apply for this $1,500 scholarship.
Recipients of this scholarship who attend Linn-Benton Community College will have their scholarship matched by InterCommunity Health Network CCO in 2024.

The Julietta A. Pape Scholarship Fund was designed to help residents of Brownsville, Cascadia, Crabtree, Crawfordsville, Foster, Halsey, Lacomb, Lebanon, Scio, Shedd, Sweet Home, Tangent and Waterloo who are attending medical school. Applicants must be attending College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific-Northwest in Lebanon or Oregon Health Sciences University in Portland.
Caregivers and certified nursing assistants who are pursuing continued education in the nursing field are encouraged to apply for this $500 scholarship. Preference is given to applicants from the Lebanon area and single parents.
The Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center Nursing Excellence Scholarship was established in 2013 in honor/memory of outstanding registered nurses at Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center in Corvallis, Oregon. The Nursing Excellence Scholarship is available to eligible students pursuing RN, BSN or advanced nursing degrees who demonstrate leadership and clinical expertise and excellence. A minimum of one $1,000 scholarship is awarded annually for tuition, books and school fees.

Students from east Linn County currently enrolled in a nursing program are invited to apply for this $1,500 scholarship, in the memory of Rachel Easton, RN, a longtime nurse in Lebanon.

The Larry A. Mullins, DHA, Endowed Scholarship for Health Care Education scholarship was established in 2003 by the board of directors of Samaritan Health Services in Corvallis, Oregon. It was founded in honor of former Samaritan Health Services’ President/CEO Dr. Larry Mullins, upon the completion of his doctoral degree in health care administration (DHA) from the Medical University of South Carolina. At least one scholarship of $2,000 is awarded annually from this fund.
Funding decisions are made on an annual basis by a committee chaired by Dr. Mullins. To be considered for a Mullins Scholarship, candidates must meet the following guidelines:
Mullins scholarships are available to individuals without regard to race, religion, national origin, gender, age, color, disability or marital status.
Your organization or department is invited to submit funding proposals for the John C. Erkkila, MD, Endowment for Health and Human Performance. The fund is based with the Good Samaritan Hospital Foundation in Corvallis, Oregon, and total assets of the fund currently exceed $1.5 million. Individual grants of up to $20,000 are awarded annually.
This endowment was established in November 1994 through funds donated to the Good Samaritan Hospital Foundation by Ralph Hull of Monroe in honor of his longtime physician, John C. Erkkila, MD. The endowment stipulates that 90% of the interest earnings be distributed each year, with the remaining 10% added to the endowment principal. The purpose of the fund is to support programs and projects that enhance human function and performance through clinical research, rehabilitation and/or prevention.

The Albany General Hospital Foundation Employee Scholarship program helps cover expenses for conferences, seminars, trainings or certification exams during the year. Scholarships are available due to the generosity of donors, as well as our employees who give through the Samaritan Employee Caring Campaign.
Linn County students currently attending college and majoring in a medical field are invited to apply for the Samaritan Albany General Hospital $1,000 Volunteer Services Scholarship. East Linn County students currently attending college and majoring in a medical field are invited to apply for the Samaritan Lebanon Community Hospital $1,000 Auxiliary Scholarship.
