Perhaps one of the easiest ways to celebrate Juneteenth is to pay patronage to Black-owned businesses in the community. Right here in Utah there are a plethora of Black owned restaurants for the whole family to enjoy, here are just a few of our favorites.
- Jamaica’s Kitchen
One of Salt Lake City’s original and most popular food trucks offers a taste of Jamaican cuisine. Chef Donovan cooks up fresh flavors and authentic Jamaican cuisine including their signature Jerk Chicken and Coco Bread.
- Lovee’s Cakes
Nestled in South Ogden, owner Debbie Glanton began selling her signature Lovee’s Cakes out of her home kitchen and in just nine years she has developed a loyal following across Utah who come from all over just to sample her Potato Chip Cookies, Chocolate Covered Bacon Strips, Cheesecake Bites and original Cupcakes.
- 11 Hauz
Influenced by her time sneaking a bite in her mother’s kitchen, Sheron Grant brought a piece of home with her to Salt Lake City, opening 11 Hauz, an authentic Jamaican experience, complete with Great Granny’s Sunday Best Mac & Cheese and home cooked plantains.
- Diversion
A modern-take on traditional fast-casual eateries, Diversion is a twist on American classics such as burgers, wings and tacos. While there make sure to try a taste of their famous cocktails and microbrews.
- Balabe
The roaming food truck offers one of the only genuine Senegal's cuisines in all of Utah, using traditional preparation methods and imported spices they are able to provide a true taste of Senegal. Known for their Mafee Poutine, french fries doused in a peanut butter stew, Balabe is a truly unique experience and a must have at any food truck event.
