As a summer project, Rose-Hulman Ventures’ student interns helped design and create more than 200 hand sanitizer stations to help keep members of the Rose-Hulman campus and Terre Haute community safe and healthy.

As the COVID-19 global pandemic continues, communities around the country are experiencing a shortage of many health and safety items, including hand sanitizer stands and stations.

Identifying this shortage, Rose-Hulman Ventures, the engineering consulting, prototyping, and product design firm associated with Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, stepped up to provide 200 sanitizer stands for the campus. The production was coordinated by Rose-Hulman students during internships this summer.

Another two dozen stations were added to the production to assist local businesses and the Terre Haute Chamber of Commerce in their efforts to keep local citizens safe and healthy during the pandemic.

On September 17, members of the Chamber staff delivered hand sanitizing stands to several local businesses, including Baesler’s Market, the Terre Haute Children’s Museum, J. Ford’s Black Angus, The Saratoga Restaurant, The Verve, and others. Some of the stations will be used during the Eat in the Streets initiative happening downtown each Friday and Saturday.

“This has certainly been a challenging year for all our local businesses,” says Chamber President Kristin Craig. “I applaud Rose-Hulman Ventures for thinking creatively and using their highly skilled students and staff to help alleviate at least one concern for local businesses. The hand sanitizing stations are a great way for any business to keep their employees and customers safe while we navigate this health crisis.”

Rose-Hulman President Robert A. Coons also is delighted that Rose-Hulman Ventures has made the hand sanitizer stations available to help the Terre Haute community. He states, “Rose-Hulman is a strong community partner with the Terre Haute Chamber of Commerce, and is always proud to support local businesses and their patrons. Rose-Hulman Ventures has dedicated engineers, project managers, technicians, and student interns who are always looking for creative solutions to everyday problems. Whether it is designing lifesaving medical devices or creating hand sanitizer stations, Rose-Hulman Ventures is committed to helping others.”
