The Business of Pride and The Power of Recognition

Hard work is its own reward, they say. But it’s still nice to be honored for the work you do. And it’s even better when that honor recognizes not just what you do, but who you are. So I’m especially thrilled to be a 2020 Washington Business Journal Business of Pride honoree. This award, highlighted in today’s edition of the Washington Business Journal, recognizes a group of ten openly LGBTQ business leaders in the Washington region.

When I decided to start RENEWPR, I knew from the start that I wanted to be certified as an LGBT Business Enterprise by the National LGBT Chamber of Commerce. In fact, completing the application was one of the first things I did after launching the business in January 2015. I was thrilled when my application was accepted and I’ve proudly displayed my certification badge on the RENEWPR website ever since.

But certification is only part of the story. The rest is focused on engaging with the LGBTQ community and building and maintaining a successful business. I’ve been fortunate to have the opportunity to both. From my past work with clients such as the Gill Foundation, Gay Men’s Chorus of Washington, LGBT Victory Fund, Family Equality and Believe Out Loud to my development and management of DC Family Communicators and my volunteer work with NGLCC and others, I’m involved with my community every day. And as my business has grown, I’ve grown with it. This summer, I “officially” added LGBTQ communications as one of the three areas of focus for RENEWPR and included even more LGBTQ content on the website and social media channels.

I’m just getting started, and this recognition will fuel my efforts to lift my community up while also advancing the business goals of my clients. I’m so very honored to be recognized and so very thankful to the friends, colleagues and clients who nominated me for this prestigious award. THANK YOU!
