Protest Support

In support of the uprising against police violence following the murders of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor, and due to the urgent need for bail support for protesters, we began to pay criminal bond for protesters in June 2020. As of October 2020, we have paid bail for every protester who requested our assistance and had a bail amount set (though in a few notable cases protesters were held without bail). We are committed to paying bail for any and all protesters who need our support, regardless of the cost of bail or charges.

Between January and October 2020 we have raised $520,000, at least $250,000 of which is exclusively designated for protester bail support. We, along with our partner organizations, have paid roughly $184,000 in bond for protesters jailed throughout the state.

We are committed to ongoing support for protesters and the movements for Black liberation and abolition of policing and imprisonment throughout Iowa. We are and will continue to be accountable to Black-led movement partners as we determine how best our funds can be used to support their vital work.
