2025 ICVT Toronto Call for Presenters

11th International Congress of Voice Teachers (ICVT)

The International Congress of Voice Teachers invites scholars, practitioners, and artists to contribute to our vibrant community by submitting Abstracts for Talks, Workshops, Lecture Recitals, and Poster Presentations. This prestigious conference serves as a platform to explore the latest advancements, share insights, and engage in meaningful discussions within the field of voice education, scholarship and research, and artistry.

Applicants may choose between different Presentation Types:

• Talks
• Workshops
• Lecture Recitals
• Poster Sessions

All submissions will be evaluated by the ICVT Program Committee. A primary criteria for acceptance will be the relevance to the voice profession based on scientific and/or artistic quality as well as the diversity of the topic. The Committee may invite the Abstract Submission participant to consider a different presentation type when deemed appropriate. Whether a theoretical exploration of voice pedagogy (i.e. physiology, acoustics, singing through a life span, a broad spectrum of contemporary music, kinesthetic training, science-informed functional training, vocal exercises for warm-up and cool-down), insights into historical performance practices, psychology of singing, voice science & technology, mind & body awareness, or new directions such as artificial intelligence, we welcome diverse perspectives that contribute to the breadth of voice knowledge. 

Cultural diversity will be a priority for the conference as we focus on ALL Voices Uplifted.

TALKS

Oral presentation should propose thought-provoking talks that explore diverse aspects of voice as outlined above. Talks will be 15-45 minutes in length plus 5 minutes for Question and Response (Q&R). They will be grouped into sessions according to content. Please indicate the length you feel needed for your presentation. The Committee will take this into consideration, but the desired length is not guaranteed.

WORKSHOPS

We encourage presenters to submit practical workshops that focus on application. This is not a lecture format so should therefore focus on real-time demonstration with attendees, or pre-arranged singers. The Abstract should identify learning outcomes (takeaways for the participants). Workshops will last 15-45 minutes with 5-minutes for question and response (Q&R). Please indicate the length you feel you need for your presentation. The Committee will take this into consideration, but the desired length is not guaranteed.

LECTURE RECITALS

If you have a unique performance approach coupled with insightful commentary, consider submitting a proposal for a lecture recital. Share your artistic journey, intertwining musical expression with academic reflection. We seek presentations that captivate both the auditory and intellectual senses. Lecture Recitals will be 25 OR 45 minutes.

POSTER PRESENTATIONS

Posters may be on display during the whole conference depending on the number selected. In addition, there will be dedicated times where discussions can take place between authors and conference participants. The submitted poster Abstract (max 350 words), as well as the actual poster, should contain the investigation’s objective, method, results and conclusion.

Notification of acceptance: August 1, 2024

All presentations will be in English.
