Montgomery Parks Adaptive Equipment Usage Guidelines
Montgomery Parks strives to promote access and inclusion within the public places, facilities, and programs the department manages. The Program Access Office (Inclusion Services) has made various adaptive equipment available throughout the county for people at no additional cost to the user.
Procedures will vary based on the location. Please read each description for specific details.

Prior to visiting any of our parks or facilities, please check facility webpages for hours of operation.
Appropriate adaptive equipment is available to use on-site at larger events. Please visit the event webpage to determine if the Access on Wheels Trailer will be on-site.
An ultra-stable and versatile shooting rest for your crossbow. Users can shoot their crossbow from a grounded, sitting or standing position. Height adjustment range of 18″ to 60″. Available for public use at the archery range and during archery classes or camps.

Note: Standard archery equipment is not available for rent.

The fishing kit includes the fishing grasping cuff, fishing palm cuff and the Reel Deal.
The fishing grasping cuff is designed for anglers with limited or no hand function. The grasping cuff curves your hand and allows for a fishing rod to be placed in the curve of your hand. The grasping cuff has Velcro on the wrist and over the top of your hand. The fishing palm cuff fits over two of your fingers and is secured around your wrist with a Velcro strap. There is heavy-duty Velcro on the palm of the cuff. The cuff is used in conjunction with the Reel Deal. The Reel Deal is an adaptive fishing accessory for individuals with limited or no hand function. It securely attaches to baitcasting and spinning reels where the handle is no more than one inch wide at the knob’s widest point. It can be removed and attached to another reel handle.

Note: Black Hill Boats does not rent fishing equipment but does sell bait, cane poles, nets, and terminal tackle.

Includes an adapted trowel, spade, and fork for individuals with arthritis or limited arm, wrist, and hand mobility.
Available for use during special programs and classes.

A comfortable swivel, rolling work seat that allows individuals to avoid bending or stooping while working in one of the various community gardens. Visit the Black Hill Discovery Center or Contact the Program Access Office to reserve this equipment
The Tee-Up is especially suited for individuals with physical mobility issues especially those with leg, back or hip issues. Push a button with your club or foot and the ball is automatically positioned on the tee. *Note: this piece of equipment has a small, raised platform and is currently not wheelchair accessible.
Available for public use on a first-come, first-served basis. Please see a desk attendant inside the clubhouse for assistance.

Tee off equipment specially designed to assist all levels of golfers to practice the latest swing techniques. Simply push the lever to automatically place the ball on the tee. The foot stand is adjustable for ease of use. This equipment is fully accessible for a person using a wheelchair.
Available for public use on a first-come, first-served basis. Please see a desk attendant inside of the clubhouse to reserve this equipment or if you need assistance.

A lightweight skate trainer that allows a young skater, a beginner, or a patron with a disability the stability and confidence to skate on ice. To use, an individual gently leans and pushes the equipment while skating forward.
Please contact the front desk for specific details on how to reserve a Skate Aid during public skating hours.

An induction loop hearing assistance system suitable for indoor programs and public meetings. The system is compatible with all telecoil-equipped hearing aids as well as loop receivers with headphones.

A lightweight wheelchair designed to allow an athlete maximum flexibility of movement. It includes a positioning strap across the waist and/or thighs to keep the player safely in the chair. This is an 18″ wide chair with adjustable seat depth and height.

Visit Wheaton Tennis for hours and location.
A lightweight wheelchair designed to allow a young person maximum flexibility of movement. It includes a positioning strap across the waist and/or thighs to keep the player safely in the chair. This is a 14″ wide chair with adjustable seat depth and height.

Pauline Betz Addie Indoor Tennis Center for hours and location.
A standard wheelchair that aids a person with any physical limitation or health issue to navigate our parks and facilities.
Ask an attendant at the front desk/customer service area at the following parks to reserve a wheelchair for use during your visit.

Transfer Bench and Chariot Launch are designed to assist individuals with limited mobility in safely transferring in and out of a kayak.
Available for use during kayaking lessons at Black Hill Regional Park.

An All-Terrain Handcycle with fully adjustable depth and angle seat back settings allows for a high degree of control and adjustment for maximum comfort. All brake, steering and propulsion comes from the hands. Pedal assist is available to help navigate difficult terrain.

This bike is suitable for persons with sufficient grip strength to operate a hand brake and the cognitive ability to respond to quickly changing terrain and trail traffic. Transferring into the Lasher requires lower limb flexibility. The riding position is seated, recumbent, and low.
Essential Eligibility for Adaptive Mountain Biking

Rider must be able to make safe cognitive decisions in a fast-paced changing environment.

Rider can follow safety precautions.

Rider can hold their head upright without any head and/or neck support.

Rider can wear a properly fitted and rated bike helmet, as well as any other safety equipment appropriately.

Rider can understand and follow multiple-step instructions from the instructors independently and in a fast-paced environment.

Rider can transfer in and out of the bike independently or with some assistance.

Rider can remain alert and focused for the duration of the ride and can make decisions quickly in variable terrain.

Rider can demonstrate they can independently peddle, steer, stop, start and ride the bike over, around, up, and down a variety of terrain deemed appropriate for their experience level.

In collaboration with Team River Runner, a non-profit organization, Parks can provide users with a seating system that provides additional support and balance where needed; Stabilizing Outriggers that mount to the back of a boat to provide extra balance and buoyancy and; Paddle Pivot provides a pivot point around which the paddle stroke can happen and allows one handed paddling.

Binoculars are optical devices that consist of two parallel telescopes mounted side by side. They are designed to provide magnified and detailed views of distinct objects, allowing the user to see faraway objects with greater clarity and detail.

Monocular Telescopes are optical devices that consist of single telescope as opposed to the dual telescopes found in binoculars. They function similarly by using lenses and prisms to capture and focus light, allowing for magnified views of distinct objects.
