Police release name of Kalamazoo man, 61, killed while bicycling

KALAMAZOO COUNTY, MI – Police released the name of the bicyclist killed in a crash Wednesday morning.

David Conley, 61, of Kalamazoo, was killed in a crash around 5:54 a.m. May 12 on West KL Avenue, near Drake Road, in Oshtemo Township.

Conley was bicycling east on KL Avenue when he was hit by a 23-year-old Concord woman driving a car, Michigan State Police said.

Conley died at the scene from his injuries, police said. He was not wearing a helmet, police said.

The driver of the car is fully cooperating with authorities, police said, and was not injured.

Conley’s death comes partway through the 10th annual Kalamazoo Area Bike Week. The week is meant to, in part, raise awareness and promote the use of bicycles as a means of transportation, according to the event’s website.
