Fire Prevention Week

Fire Prevention Week is observed each year in the week that contains Oct. 9. Each year, the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) sets a theme that works to educate everyone about simple but important actions they can take to keep to stay safe.

This year's theme is "Cooking safety starts with you. Pay attention to fire prevention."

Cooking is the leading cause of fires and fire injuries in Massachusetts. Most of these fires are the result of unattended cooking or other unsafe practices. This year’s campaign works to educate everyone about simple but important actions they can take to keep themselves and those around them safe when cooking.

The National Fire Protection Association has many resources for firefighters and teachers including lesson plans for different age groups, sample press releases, the logo, and more: visit www.nfpa.org/fpw
