Over $25 million has been included in the House appropriations bills upon request by Congressman John James for various public projects in his district in addition to $22.4 million for the Soo Locks in the Upper Peninsula.

U.S. Rep. John James, a Shelby Township Republican who represents the 10th District, says requests granted under the program are allocated within their respective agency program accounts and would not raise the overall spending level of the bill that was approved. The awards are for fiscal year 2024.

The funding still must be approved by the House and then goes to the U.S. Senate for approval. It then also must be signed by President Biden.

Top projects for the proposed funding in the district include $7.4 million for Clinton River Road Corridor Improvement, $4 million for the Clinton Township Pilot Sanitary Sewer Lead Program and $3.5 million for Cherry Street Mall Project in Mount Clemens, according to James.

“My team and I have worked hard to secure funding for critical infrastructure in my district, and have secured funding for the Soo Locks, which is vital to our local economy in southeast Michigan,” James said in a written statement. “These grants will go toward projects important to our national security, economy, sanitation, transportation, and quality of life. I’m proud to be delivering for my district and look forward to continuing to serve its priorities.”
