The Most Playful Jewels in Hindman’s Palm Beach Sale

Share

Fine jewelry isn’t always so serious. Chicago-based Hindman auction house is hosting its annual Palm Beach Jewelry sale on Feb. 23 that proves just that. Of course, there are the usual suspects—designs from premier houses such as David Webb, Tiffany & Co., Seaman Schepps, and more—but the sale also includes plenty of lighthearted bits and baubles.

Among them are Milanese jeweler Vhernier’s balloon ear clips (below) with pear-shaped cabochon rock crystal layered with rhodochrosite for an almost confectionery effect. The earrings, with an estimate of $1,000–$2,000, launched the brand’s Palloncino line in 1995, a collection that has become a favorite today.

Another unexpected highlight of Hindman’s sale is a retro (but likely Victorian-inspired) crescent brooch set with moonstone that features two little figures with ruby heads sitting on the inner curve of the moon. It’s a spirited and sweet take on a traditional design.

Other pieces include an embellished yellow gold fish brooch with yellow sapphires and exaggerated diamond eyes; a parrot brooch covered in calibre-cut colored stones; and a Vhernier goose pendant of carved rock crystal over mother-of-pearl. Below, we’ve rounded up some of the most playful pieces (in true Palm Beach fashion) in the sale.
