Welcome to Henry’s Corner!

It all started when…

Henry the Mule was doing some research into his long lost cousin Champy’s life, and he discovered that Champy once pulled barges up and down the Champlain Canal, just outside of a little village called “Schuylerville.” (It took him a little while to figure out how to pronounce it, but once a friend loaned him a copy of the “Hamilton” soundtrack he caught on pretty quickly.)

Henry had lots of questions. What was his cousin’s life like as a canal mule? What was this mysterious “Schuylerville” like, way back when (and what’s it like today)? And, maybe most importantly, was he named “Champy” after the Canal, or because he liked biting things?

Determined to find out as much as he could, Henry set out on an adventure…and ended up at Hudson Crossing Park!

Henry quickly fell in love, and decided to follow in Cousin Champy’s footsteps and spend his days experiencing life along the canal…except maybe without so much of the heavy labor. (Henry still hasn’t found out why his cousin was named “Champy,” although Henry’s pretty much decided to go with the canal theory, rather than the biting one.)

We hope that you will spend some time here at Henry’s Corner, having fun along with him as he learns more about Hudson Crossing and all the great things we have going on. And keep your eye out…you might just meet Henry himself at one of our events or programs!

This book was inspired by a special section of the Hudson Crossing Park web site “Henry’s Corner”. Compiled by park volunteers, the contents of this book include selected clip art that support the adventures Henry experiences in the video linked to that page. In addition, each piece of art is positioned over actual park photos that in many cases, include animals referenced in the video lesson.

The video lessons themselves were produced by the talented Executive Park Director, Kate Morse, who incorporates her vast educational and theatrical experience to make learning both fun and educational for all ages.
