Dear HISD Families, Wylie Primary School will be conducting a required lockdown drill this Wednesday (March 6, 2024). This exercise is a part of our ongoing commitment to ensure the safety and well-being of our students and staff. Preparing for all types of emergencies is a responsibility HISD takes very seriously. Law enforcement officials will also be supporting the exercise to provide expertise and to practice responding to the scene. People driving by may notice an increased police presence outside the buildings during this brief drill. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. HISD Administration

Dear Henderson ISD Families, We are reaching out to inform you that Henderson High School and Middle School are currently under lockdown. This precautionary measure has been taken due to an unconfirmed report regarding a potential threat to our schools. We are actively working with the Henderson Police Department and other local law enforcement agencies to thoroughly investigate this situation. The safety and security of our students, staff, and community are our highest priorities. Rest assured, all necessary precautions are being taken to ensure the safety of everyone on campus. We ask that families refrain from coming to school to pick up their children at this time. Students will remain in their classrooms or designated safe areas until we receive clearance from authorities that it is safe to end the lockdown. We understand the anxiety and concerns that arise with such situations and are committed to keeping you informed. Further updates will be provided as soon as additional information becomes available. We appreciate your patience, understanding, and cooperation during this time. HISD Administration

Dear HISD Parents/Guardians, With the start of a new semester, we want to remind you of our procedures for giving medications at school. Henderson ISD does not provide medication for administration to students. If your child’s physician prescribes a medication to be administered at school, the following requirements must be met by the parent/legal guardian: Prescription Medications: A parent/legal guardian must bring the medication to the school. Students are not allowed to carry medication on the bus, in their backpacks, or on their person. The medication must be in the original container and labeled by the pharmacist. The label must include: a. Student’s name b. Physician’s name c. Name of medication d. Amount of medication to be given and frequency of administration e. Date prescription filled An HISD Medication Permission Form must be completed and signed by the parent/legal guardian prior to the administration of medication by school personnel. Non-prescription medication: All non-prescription medication must be in the original container with the label intact. An HISD Medication Permission Form must be completed and signed prior to administration of non-prescription medication by school personnel. Non-prescription medication can be administered for 10 consecutive school days without a physician’s order/note. After 10 consecutive school days, a physician’s order/note must be on file to continue administration of non-prescription medications. Administration of Medication: Each campus has a nurse who will administer your child’s medication and if the nurse is not available, the principal will designate other school personnel to administer your child’s medication. Except for specific asthma inhalers, diabetic medications, and epi pens, children are not allowed to have medication in their possession while at school. If you have any questions, please contact your child’s campus nurse by calling the campus’s main phone number or you may contact Stephanie Gatlin, HISD Health and Wellness Coordinator, at 903-655-5037. HAVE A HEALTHY SECOND SEMESTER!!!!! Sincerely, HISD Nurses

HISD will return to normal schedules tomorrow! All campuses and busses will run at regular times. As we return to school, please be aware that some areas on campus may still be slick. Maintenance crews have been working all day to clear off any remaining ice but there may be areas, especially in shaded or covered areas, that could refreeze overnight. This could include steps, ramps, covered walkways, playgrounds, etc. Please be safe and stay warm and we will see you tomorrow!

HISD will be closed tomorrow, Wednesday, Jan 17. Although the roads in Henderson are looking much better today (thanks to the sun!), overnight temperatures will refreeze wet areas causing problems especially on rural roads in the county. Please stay safe and warm! - HISD Admin

RSSP/MTSS meeting
This evening’s 9th grade basketball game has been cancelled due to a personal medical emergency involving one of our students. Immediate care was provided, and the student is currently under medical supervision. The JV and varsity games have continued since they are being played at a different location. We understand this situation may be distressing to any students who witnessed the incident. Counselors are available for any students needing support. Thank you for your understanding and support. We wish the student a quick recovery.
