Overview

In partnership with Grow with Google, the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) is pleased to introduce the Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSI) Career Readiness Program. 

This initiative partners with HSI career services centers across the United States to help college students develop the digital skills they need to find and secure internships and jobs that will help them build successful careers. To support the program, Google has invested $2 million  to help HACU and selected HSIs work together to train 200,000 students on digital skills by 2025.

Pre-matriculated and post-secondary students will have an opportunity to grow their skills through a series of curated content that includes career development opportunities, professional brand training, and digital skills workshops. This initiative seeks to be a catalyst for an excelling future workforce by providing semester-long virtual and in-person workshops, free educational tools for students, and continued support for recent alumni to help them prepare for their next internship or land their next job.

And through a network of more than 7,500 partner organizations—including local libraries, schools, and nonprofits—more people across the country can reach their full potential.

Program Curriculum

The HSI Career Readiness Program leverages Grow with Google digital skills workshops, alongside additional professional development resources to help students gain critical digital skills for the workforce. The initiative encompasses five, flexible learning paths, each with focused lessons and optional supplementary learning materials. Below is a snapshot of the five learning paths for the HSI Career Readiness Program:

Path 1: Build Your Digital Skills: Students explore a variety of Google digital tools and how they can be used to increase productivity in the workplace and in everyday life.

Path 2: Explore Career Paths: Students research different possible career paths to figure out which career might be right for them. Then, they create a career plan and start networking to find a job in the field.

Path 3: Land a Great Job: Students use digital tools to search for a job, write a resume and cover letter, and stand out in interviews, all while conveying their personal brand.

Path 4: Succeed at Your New Job: Students practice running efficient meetings, managing projects, and presenting to stakeholders.

Path 5: Start Your Own Businesses: Students research business opportunities, write a business plan, and estimate the financing they’ll need to create their own business.

The HSI Career Readiness Program uses a “watch, do, and meet” approach to ensure students have a proactive, interactive, and self-paced approach to learning.  Students will:

Grant Payment Information 

Selected program institutions will receive $25,000 during the first semester of the program. Upon program evaluations, program institutions will receive up to an additional $25,000 for the second semester of the program. 

Budget

Amount of initial request may not to exceed $25,000 and must be used for the period between January 2022- December 2022. Please submit a tentative budget for these funds. Budgets need to be detailed in number of hours per staff, breakdown of each event (food, location, supplies).  Please note that per our agreement with Google, indirect costs for the micro-grants are set at 15%.  Budgets can be uploaded through an Excel or Word file.
