THE BANJAR JAYA CAMPAIGN:

Securing a Home for Balinese Arts in the Bay Area

“I am delighted for Gamelan Sekar Jaya, one of the best performing arts groups outside Bali, to continue sharing their excellent study and performance of music and dance of Bali with passion, love, and respect, as they have done for over four decades.”

- Professor I Wayan Dibia, Ph.D., Former Director of Indonesian Institute of the Arts (ISI) Denpasar

"I am delighted to support Gamelan Sekar Jaya in their facility campaign. The group embodied stellar musicality and authenticity in their performances with the San Francisco Symphony in 2014. What an enormous gift it is to have this gem of an organization as an artistic collaborator in the Bay Area."

- Michael Tilson Thomas, Music Director Laureate of the San Francisco Symphony

After more than forty years as tenants,
Gamelan Sekar Jaya is purchasing our own building.

We need your help to raise $2,250,000!

Your support for this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity will help us

  • Complete the purchase of our building and make it safe, sustainable, and more versatile for generations to come.

  • Beautify our grounds, allowing us to flourish as a welcoming space for joyful and rich intercultural exchange for Indonesian diaspora and Bay Area communities.

  • Lower our operating costs to redirect more of our resources towards school programming, artists, and events serving the local Bay Area and global Community.

Gamelan Sekar Jaya is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) public benefit organization. Contributions are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.
Whatever amount you choose, know that we are immensely grateful!
For help with your donation, contact General Manager Gillian Irwin: [gillian@gsj.org].

WORDS OF SUPPORT

FOR THE BANJAR JAYA CAMPAIGN

“Gamelan Sekar Jaya’s longevity proves the enduring value of these kinds of cross-cultural exchange that were such an important part of my own musical education. The Gamelan is now at a new phase in making these kinds of connections permanent, and deserves your generous support.”

- Steve Reich, Contemporary composer

“Sekar Jaya has made Balinese arts a vital part of American life, and the love and value they give to their local community is matched only by their deep connection to the source of the arts they so expertly share.”

- Jody Diamond, Composer, performer, and Indonesian gamelan specialist
