Census Data Intern

The Office of Epidemiology and Population Health (OEPH) is responsible for monitoring, analyzing, and reporting on the state of Cleveland residents’ health and applying this information to control disease and other negative health events. OEPH also provides health data and education to City Hall, external community groups, other programs within CDPH. As the Census Data Epidemiology Intern, you will gain valuable experience in public health data management/analysis and have the opportunity to contribute to important public health initiatives.

Examples of Duties

Primary Duties:

  • Create procedures for retrieving and maintaining population data for the City of Cleveland from US Census data.
  • Draft standard operating procedure(s) for project deliverables.
  • Create metadata descriptions for new dataset(s).

Minimum Qualifications

Qualifications and Skills:
Required

  • Enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate public health program
  • Strong data management and analysis skills
  • Familiarity with epidemiological methods
  • Knowledge of and sensitivity to different racial/ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds, and people with different gender identities, cultural differences and disabilities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills
  • Energetic and eager to tackle new projects and ideas
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
Preferred
  • Knowledge of tools such as R, SAS, ArcGIS, or PowerBI

Supplemental Information

OEPH interns will also have the opportunity to complete their capstone project or practicum at CDPH.

Location: In-person, 75 Erieview Plaza, Cleveland, Ohio 44114
Schedule: Minimum 10 hours per week. Flexible scheduling between 8am and 5pm, Monday - Friday
Duration: 1 semester, internship can be extended if agreed on by both the student and OEPH, up to a maximum of 1 calendar year
