ABOUT THIS ROLE:
We are currently seeking a highly motivated individual with exceptional interpersonal skills for a part-time Probation/Pretrial Officer. Prince William County Criminal Justice Services is an Evidence Based Practices Agency. It is a fast paced, growing, family style organization that promotes public safety. We strive to reduce victimization, break the cycle of crime, and contribute to community restoration by incorporating the use of Evidence Based Practices.  

Duties Include:
Supervising clients with differential supervision to verify compliance with court orders; completing risk assessments to assess and develop individualized case plans for clients; coordinating interventions targeted at risk reduction and making referrals to treatment agencies; supporting behavior change through incentives and sanctions; monitoring community service requirements; collecting payments for program fees; observing clients submit urine specimens for drug testing and provide instant results; representing the agency for court hearings; testifying in court and providing clear, concise, informative, detailed written reports to the court; providing quality customer service; facilitating groups; representing the agency at community events; attending a two week DCJS CORE training; serving on committees within the agency and with stakeholders; working under stressful situations and making sound decisions; adapting to change; working under deadlines; and providing guidance to clients.

For the Intensive Community Supervision Program (ICS), duties will also include: monitoring and supervising high risk pretrial clients, to include Seriously Mentally Ill; supervising clients through office and home visits (to include Saturday visits on a rotation schedule) to verify compliance with court orders; completing interviews in a jail setting on potential clients for the ICS Program; completing GPS device hookups on defendants at the jail and monitoring their whereabouts on an electronic monitoring system; serve as the on-call officer (on a rotation schedule); requesting arrest warrants for clients that are in a non-compliance status and identified as a danger to self or the community; completing background investigations on clients by utilizing several criminal justice data base systems. 

PREFERENCES:
The successful candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in criminology, psychology, social services, counseling or a related field and 2-3 years of experience related to probation/pretrial services. Experience in the supervision of clients in the community; case management, conducting risk assessments and making referrals based upon identified needs, working 1:1 in the creation of case plans to include follow up; customer service, group facilitation, making presentations, working with individuals involved in the Criminal Justice System; and a demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally

SCHEDULE REQUIREMENTS:  Please note this position is Part-Time, 18.75 hours per week.
Monday through Friday typically between 8 am and 5 pm with one evening staying until 7 pm.
Some overnight travel.

Please note, positions in our Intensive Community Supervision Program (ICS), require
on-call and weekend duty on a rotating basis which requires work beyond normal
business hours including evenings, nights, weekends and holidays.


SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Virginia Criminal Information Network Certification (VCIN) Certification by the Virginia State Police which require the passing of a criminal background check.
  • Must possess a Valid Driver's License.
  • Must pass local, state and federal background checks.
ENTRY SALARY RANGE: $32.11 - $47.33 hourly
