Master’s degree in a human services field (i.e., psychology, social work, counseling, or education); minimum of three years of professional experience working within a human services field is required and experience in a juvenile justice setting is strongly preferred; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.  Applicants should have strong skills in the areas of crisis intervention, individual and family counseling, group facilitation, staff coaching and development, and working with other agencies and providers as this position will require working with multiple juvenile justice agencies. Applicants with specialized training, including knowledge of and experience in delivering evidence-based treatment services, certifications, or experience in serving this population, those with professional licenses (most commonly Licensed Clinical Social Worker or Licensed Professional Counselor), endorsements in substance use and abuse, and trauma-informed care are particularly encouraged to apply. Applicants should be self-motivated and able to work independently and competently across juvenile justice programs.  Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check and education/degree verification required.

As the Senior Mental Health Clinician for Chesterfield County’s Department of Juvenile Justice Services, this position will work across multiple agencies, including community-based programs, juvenile probation and parole, and juvenile detention, to ensure continuity of care and mental health support for court-involved youth.  The position will be housed at juvenile detention and work as part of a three-person mental health team to provide crisis intervention and supportive counseling to detained residents; screen residents for and implement a program of safety precautions for residents at risk of self-harm; facilitate psycho-educational as well as evidence-based groups for both detained residents and community-based program participants; advise staff on strategies to effectively manage resident behavior while promoting a trauma-informed work environment; provide training to juvenile justice services’ staff on trauma-informed approaches, motivational interviewing techniques, and other evidence-based strategies.   This position will provide individual and family counseling to a caseload of residents serving their time in juvenile detention.  Selected candidate will attend treatment team meetings and provide weekly updates regarding resident’s treatment progress; complete Individualized Service Plan (ISPs) documents; review program referrals and complete clinical assessments for resident placement in treatment programs; attend tele-psych appointments in partnership to offer guidance regarding medications and ongoing mental health treatment. Position will serve on several inter-and intra-agency task forces and committees.   Perform other work as required.
