Ruth comes from a troubled family. Walter is a small town athlete who is just trying do the right thing. Theirs is a love story that cannot be stopped by distance, time, hardships or accidents.
This story has some wonderful memories from Walter. I especially enjoyed his memories of Ruth when they were just married and setting up their home. The stories of Ruth’s life when she was younger were much harder for me to read as they were very relatable.
I really enjoyed how the story came back a full circle. The symbolism of a simplistic string of pearls being the most expensive item Walter purchased was precious to me. Walter purchased those pearls in a last minute impulse buy because they remind him of Ruth and he knew she would like them the best. Although some people may think it was not very realistic that a pearl necklace could be worth more than diamonds, there are specific pearls that are worth a lot of money. Some have even auctioned off in the millions of dollars. The symbolism is that Ruth is the thing that was with the most to Walter. I think I wild have loved it more of Ruth had been wearing them all along.
The characterization could have been a little bit mores in depth. There really wasn’t a lot of character growth that was seen. I was also frustrated by the simplicity of the conflict. If Walter had been honest with Ruth, it wouldn’t have mattered that he hid the jewelry because Ruth would have known about it all along. This makes for a very week plot.

PG- Kissing. Language. Off scene sex.

I really enjoyed reading Those Three Words. It’s drama-type realistic fiction, with a little romance, a little suspense and some great characters.

I enjoyed Cassidy Beck’s format, where we slowly understood the story alternating between the current day and flashbacks of the past. This style gradually reveals the characters’ backstories and quirks. Through it we learn of their hardships and the trials they had overcome.

Recently Walter had a terrible accident, leaving him needing care and unable to speak. He remembers aspects of his life, both good and bad. He is trying to communicate something important, but will his family understand?

This book does have a few swear words and suggestive content, but nothing too explicit. Great read! 4.5 stars!

Thank you to Cassidy Beck (author) for the free copy of Those Three Words in exchange for an honest review!

I really enjoyed this book! I devoured it in one day and loved how everything tied up so nicely! The premise gave me "The Notebook" vibes with the sweet young romance that beats the odds and then following them through to old(er) age where Ruby becomes the main caregiver to Walter after a traumatic brain injury leaves him mostly paralyzed and only able to speak 3 words. He's urgently trying to tell his family something, but only having three words makes it really difficult to communicate. The mystery and slow unfolding of the difficulties and answers for this sweet couple were touching and enthralling.

This is a debut novel from an up and coming author. It is a beautiful love story and the plot is full of engaging twists and turns. I couldn't wait to find out how it ended. It was also a great reminder of what really matters in life: family. 4.5 stars

P.S. the three words are not what you think!
