Single Mother Killed, Leaving 5 Children Under 10

Donation protected
Hello, my name is Brittany, who is a friend of the Wills/Taylor family.

Shelby Wills, age 28, was struck by a vehicle and instantly killed while walking in Lafayette, Louisiana, on the evening of Thursday, December 17, 2020.  Shelby leaves behind five young children: Joziah, 9; Jamorion, 8; Kingston, 7; Amyriee, 4;  and Aniyah, 2.  Shelby, like many of us, struggled with depression. She clawed herself out of a dark hole in order to be more present for her children. She was making positive changes in her life. Shelby put herself back into school to become an EKG technician. She was doing well until this tragedy struck exactly one week before Christmas. Christmas will never be the same for this family.

Shelby's parents, who are disabled, now have to raise her five children, as well as provide for Shelby's sister Katrina, 17, who is expecting a baby girl this coming March. Shelby also leaves behind her brother, Chris 22. Shelby's mom is a two time cancer survivor with 13% white matter on her brain. Her father is a retired police officer who served for 15 years until he was wounded offshore.

Financially, this family was already struggling to say the least.  I am setting this GoFundMe campaign at $100,000. Shelby's heartbroken parents are now facing unexpected childcare costs, funeral/burial costs, and possibly having to relocate to provide an adequately sized home to accommodate their family. After the fees are deducted, and the funeral costs are paid, one-hundred percent of the remaining donations will go directly to Shelby's parents to help keep food in everyone's bellies, utilities kept on, a roof over their heads, school related fees, medical care, clothing etc. for the next few years while they all go through this grieving process.

I have come to know this family through a Christmas Angel Tree that I was very recently putting together for families in need. I have been taken aback by their gratitude and humbled by their tears of appreciation for all of the kindness that strangers had shown to these kids. They said that their "hope has been restored." About one week later their daughter, the mother to these children was killed. It is hard to wrap one's mind around this. Unfortunately, we cannot turn back the clocks, but as a community of empathetic people, I am hoping that we can restore their faith over time.

2020 has been a tragic nightmare for so many. What this family is going through, though, is unfathomable. The last thing that they need is to be overwhelmed with the worry over money. Anything helps; nothing is too small. If you cannot donate, then I invite you to share the link, which has the potential to help immensely.

Shelby's mother, Faith Taylor, has her bank account linked to this GoFundMe. I have created a new email address and a new GoFundMe account that I and the Wills/Taylor family has access to. I will be updating this along the way.

Thank you so much for your prayers, love, generosity, and support.

God Bless and stay well.
