Kristin Kumagawa Memorial and Hospital Funds

Hi all, my name is Jess Patin and Kristin Kumagawa was my roommate and best friend. Kristin passed away from a medical emergency on March 2nd, 2023 at the age of 21.

Kristin was a bright, compassionate, and ambitious person who completed her undergraduate degree in Communication from Chapman University and had just begun her graduate degree in Health Communication. She was involved with many different clubs and organizations at Chapman, including her sorority Tri Delta, the chronic illness and disability awareness and support club Chapman Spoonies, her multiple on-campus jobs, and various other community-building activities she volunteered for. Kristin also ran her own sticker store, River Bear Co., and co-founded the non-profit AADI, Asian Americans with Disabilities Initiative. She did all of this while taking on lupus and the many challenges that come with it. She was a passionate activist, an awe-inspiring artist, and a loyal friend. Kristin was loved by many on the Chapman campus and her presence will be dearly missed.

Sadly, Kristin spent multiple days in the hospital before she passed. We are asking for your help to cover the cost of her medical bills, as well as those that come with funeral and end-of-life services. If these expenses are covered, any extra funds will be donated to AADI in Kristin's name to further their mission of uplifting disabled Asian American voices and her scholarship fund for students with invisible disabilities.
