Jacob Birech, Rosehill and SM South parent

The Rosehill and Shawnee Mission South school communities are mourning the death of one of our parents.

Jacob Birech was killed in a tragic accident on April 6, 2023, in the driveway of his home in Lenexa, Kansas. He had removed the wheels of his car and went under it to repair some damage but accidentally hit the jack causing the car to collapse and crush him underneath.

Jacob and his wife Penina have a Kindergarten student, Joshua, who attends Rosehill and two older children, Phillip (10th grade) and Natalie (12th grade) who also attended Rosehill, Indian Woods Middle School and now attend Shawnee Mission South.

With Penina's permission, we are collecting money to help the family cover funeral expenses, which include his family being able to take him home to his native country of Kenya for burial.

Jacob Birech was a kind and loving husband and father, with a very gentle spirit. He was a peacemaker and a leader. He worked very hard while also furthering his education and was finishing his final thesis towards a Ph.D. in Public Policy and Administration. He was loved by many and will be dearly missed. He was 54 years-old.

Jacob’s Memorial Service will held this Friday, 4/21/23 at All Nations Breakthrough Church 11411 W 71st Terrace, Shawnee Ks 66203. Visitation will start at 10:30am and the service will start at 11am-1pm.
