IAN's damages
Donation protected
Hello, My name is Eric Benoit. My mother and father, Nancy and Larry, have just survived the category 5 hurricane Ian. They weren't prepared as much as they should have been. Dad boarded up the windows. Made sure there was gas for the generator. And as most Floridians do they were quite certain this was going to be a pretty good storm (it was a Cat 3 at bed time the night before) but didn't warrant the "Bug-out" status and therefore didn't pack the car or get essentials for a quick departure if needed. 6 a.m. comes and things have changed. Drastically. They needed to leave, and leave now. The rest you already know. Water levels in their home rose to 2 feet inside. Making EVERYTHING damaged. Floor, walls, furniture, clothes and the family heirlooms are mostly gone. Insurance company isn't responding currently. They don't have resources to keep up living in a hotel until they actually DO respond. (I'm sure they're busy as well ).
I feel helpless. I don't know what to do or how to help, other than this. I'm sure the insurance company will get in touch, eventually. But it'll be a month at least before financial help could get to them and thats not soon enough. Anything would help.
Thanks for you time.
