Colorado for AAPI
Three prominent Denver chefs are joining forces to spread awareness about the rise of AAPI attacks across the country. Penelope Wong of Yuan Wonton, Caroline Glover of Annette, and Carolyn Nugent of Ulster St. Pastry are reaching out to their local Colorado professional colleagues and community to donate for Better Together, a fundraiser that will support AAPI causes.
Penelope shares, ”It’s been a very difficult past couple of months trying to process all that has happened to members of our AAPI community. There has been a such a wide range of emotions from anger, sadness, and fear. Working on this project has really helped me feel like we can make a difference.”
According to Stop AAPI Hate, a national coalition has been tracking anti-Asian hate during the pandemic, there have been more than 6,000 incident reports to the coalition from March 19, 2020 to March 31, 2021. In March 2021 alone, 2,808 hate incidents were reported which make up 42% of all reports over that period.
This will be a month long fundraiser in honor of AAPI-Heritage month and to help bring awareness to the surge in anti-Asian attacks and hate crimes. Donations can be made through May 31, 2021, until 11:59pm (MST), when this fundraiser will end.
WHO BENEFITS FROM YOUR DONATION?
100% of donations will go directly towards the AAPI Community Fund, organized by GoFundMe, and to TAAF (The Asian American Foundation). Through the GoFundMe AAPI Community Fund, donations will support organizations established to help empower, protect, and uplift AAPI communities, as well as provide support to those directly impacted by anti Asian attacks. TAAF is the largest philanthropic commitment in history focused specifically on AAPI communities. TAAF's directives include providing funding and resources to build infrastructures to improve AAPI advocacy, power, and representation by challenging anti-Asian discrimination, rewrite school curriculums to refelct the role of Asian-Americans in history and to help guide policy makers.
